Holiday Getaways in Jefferson County, West Virginia
Whether you’re from out of town looking for a private getaway in the Appalachian Mountains or a local craving a hometown, weekend retreat, Jefferson County is riddled with hidden gems perfect for those seeking rest, relaxation, and fun.
As the holidays approach, take a look at some of the cool places you can reserve for just yourself and your loved ones.
Hapua Lagoon at Quarry Run
First up on our list is Hapua Lagoon, a quarry-turned-beach hidden in the heart of Jefferson County.
This is the only getaway on the list that I, myself, have actually vacationed at. In fact, my husband and I held an intimate wedding ceremony right on the white sands of Hapua Lagoon and honeymooned in the immaculately renovated Airbnb just one year ago. I can tell you firsthand that this is a spot you should add to your vacationing bucket list!

Spend the weekend sunning on your own private beach, swimming with the fish in the quarry, or kayaking on the water. Hapua Lagoon has its own water sports equipment for renters to use, so there’s plenty to keep you busy. In addition to water sports, you can also use their on-site gym to stay in shape on your vacation. At night, warm up around the firepit or enjoy a glass of wine on the patio.
Close to Sam Michael’s Park, Hapua Lagoon is just minutes from historic Harpers Ferry and Charles Town. When you’re done swimming, head into downtown Charles Town for a bite to eat. From vegan, Puertorican cuisine to artisanal pizzas, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
